Build audit-ready COAs in under 20 minutes. A product of AdAstra CFO, live at coabuilder.com.
We build what needs to be built. Then make sure it runs.
AdAstra works with growth-stage companies navigating the inflection points that expose gaps in financial infrastructure — a fundraise on the horizon, an ERP that's buckling, a border just crossed, or a close process that's quietly becoming a liability. We diagnose what's actually broken and build the fix.
Every engagement starts with understanding what's actually broken — not what looks broken from the outside. Surface-level fixes aren't how we work.
The deliverable is always something your team can own and operate — systems, models, frameworks, processes. Not a slide deck that gets filed away.
Most advisory practices lean one way or the other. AdAstra brings both — the operational fluency to rebuild a broken process and the strategic range to advise a board.
We work on defined problems with clear deliverables. Three months minimum — long enough to actually solve something, not just describe it.
An honest conversation about your business, your numbers, and where the real friction is. No pitch, no agenda — just a clear-eyed look at what's in the way.
A defined engagement with clear deliverables and transparent pricing — whether that's a systems build, a strategic project, or ongoing advisory. No open-ended retainers.
Not a report about what's wrong — the actual solution. Systems rebuilt, processes redesigned, infrastructure stood up. Three months minimum. Long enough to leave something real.
Everything we build is documented, tested, and handed to your team to own. The engagement ends. The infrastructure doesn't.
AdAstra's work sits at the intersection of financial infrastructure, global operations, and strategic decision-making. We don't generalize—we go deep in areas where the complexity is real and the stakes are high.
Most mid-market companies reach a point where their financial infrastructure stops keeping up. Reporting is fragmented, controls are informal, and the ERP that worked at $10M is buckling at $50M.
We diagnose the gaps and build what's actually needed—from ERP configuration and custom reporting architecture to procure-to-pay process design and internal control frameworks that hold up under audit or investor scrutiny.
Crossing a border introduces a new layer of financial complexity—entity structure, intercompany accounting, transfer pricing, multi-currency reporting, and compliance obligations that vary by jurisdiction.
We help finance teams build the infrastructure to manage international operations cleanly from day one, so that expansion doesn't create a compliance backlog or a reporting blind spot.
The best financial strategies aren't built in spreadsheets—they're built from a clear understanding of unit economics, cash flow dynamics, and the real levers in your business model.
We work alongside CFOs and leadership teams to build the analytical frameworks, profitability models, and cash visibility tools that support better decisions at every level of the organization.
AI-powered. Framework-specific. Built by a practitioner.
COABuilder is an AI-powered web application that generates complete, professionally structured charts of accounts for CPAs, controllers, bookkeepers, and fractional CFOs. What used to take 15–20 hours now takes less than 20 minutes—with genuine accounting judgment baked in, not generic output.
For new clients and new engagements. An adaptive interview branches based on your answers — industry, entity type, financing structure, accounting framework, multi-entity complexity. The AI analyzes the full business profile and generates a complete, framework-specific COA ready to edit and export.
For inherited clients and messy books. Upload an existing COA as a CSV. The tool analyzes it against GAAP best practices for that specific business and returns structured findings — Critical, Warning, and Suggestion — that you can accept, modify, or dismiss. The cleaned COA exports the same day.
COABuilder was created by Phillip Coomes — a fractional CFO and former controller with 17 years of hands-on finance experience across climate tech, SaaS, multinational corporations, and government. He built the tool because he lived the problem.
That practitioner foundation is what makes COABuilder different. Every framework selection, every account name, every audit finding reflects real accounting judgment — not guesswork, not generic output.
US GAAP, IFRS, Swiss GAAP, UK FRS 102 — the output reflects genuine framework conventions, not renamed generic accounts.
The language, the logic, and the workflows are designed for CPAs, Controllers, and Fractional CFOs and business owners alike.
COABuilder is one expression of the same expertise AdAstra brings to every client engagement. The tool is fast. The judgment behind it took 17 years to build.
AdAstra was founded on a simple observation: most growth-stage companies don't need more financial reporting — they need someone to fix what's actually broken. That means rebuilding the ERP that's buckling under scale, designing the close process that's eating three weeks every month, or standing up the financial infrastructure a new country requires. The practice was built to do that work, not describe it.
Phillip brings 17+ years of progressive finance and accounting leadership across Fortune 500 logistics, NATO infrastructure, SaaS revenue accounting, and climate technology. As Finance Controller and Acting Regional CFO for Climeworks North America, he oversaw the financial infrastructure for Project Cypress — a first-of-its-kind direct air capture facility with budgeted expenditures exceeding $1.2 billion. Before that, he designed and implemented the complete financial operations stack for Breakthrough Energy, the climate technology network founded by Bill Gates.
Phillip is also the founder of COABuilder — an AI-powered Chart of Accounts tool built from real accounting practice and used by CPAs, controllers, and fractional CFOs across the US and internationally.
Most companies that work with AdAstra didn't know exactly what they needed when they first reached out. They knew something was wrong — a close taking too long, a fundraise approaching with financials that weren't ready, a system that had stopped keeping up. The conversation started there. It can start the same way here.
